The flame of the games, still burns brightly,
it is a success!
“Every
morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It
knows it must outrun the fastest lion or
it will be killed.
Every morning in Africa,
a lion wakes up. It knows it must run
faster than the slowest gazelle, or
it will starve. It doesn’t
matter whether you’re a lion or a
gazelle—when the sun
comes up, you’d better be running.”
—Abe Gubegan, Ethiopian journalist
The flame has been extinguished, the medals given out,
national anthems played like a symphony in regularity; however the fire
still burns deeply in the hearts and minds of all, who were involved, a flame
that will never be put out, even if you have the best fire extinguisher in the
world. You will have to get all the water out of the oceans, to put out
the fire: it is a big one!
An event of the caliber witnessed, is not a run of the mill:
get through attitude. It was an event of what can be achieved? What is
possible? People can make a difference to become something that is admiral to
all, effort, work, dedication. An ability to rise above, mass produced
humanity, like a car assembly line, to a level, which is above,
any mountain peak in the world, to be called an Olympian. Those
lofty ideals are still in existence, in various forms, so be confident, in
reaching your potential, and many have done it. As Elvis Presley once said: " David, once you are on stage, what you want is
substance. " It was provided in many ways!
An Olympic games, has so much
history, that you wonder if people always, wanted to be measured, compared,
looked at, analysed, to the inch, under a microscopic stress meter, which
rarely went below maximum. Scientists do this, it is never an easy scene
as the boring, tedious clips are cut out, for a polished ending, as Tom
Peters, the excellence expert said: “The Scientist is not interested in
success, he is only interested in failure, if it comes along, fine, he deals
with failure. " Not a pretty sight, which makes a lot of us feel
that it, is within, our reach; therefore we can achieve, without realistic
expectations, or goals. Fail to success, is the motto.
We looked, at the 1968, Mexico Olympic
100m champion: Jim HInes, he won in 9.95 seconds. Most of the quarters
and the semis were over the 10 sec mark at 2012.. If we took him out of
1968 in to 2012, he would have reached the final! So in the last forty
years, most have not improved at all. Only a few have despite, better training
methods, it reminds me of what Ed, said: " We are excellent, at training a
few individuals to a very high standard, we are not very good at improving the
masses, the average person, to a higher level. " A tutor in an education
class. If this scenario, is deployed, to other areas of the events,
and is consistent, then not many have showed progress, at all. No wonder
it took, so many years to break the four minute mile. Who knows, whether this is the case or not?
Or maybe we just like to show the winners, who stand out, and have showed
real progress, for humanity, while the rest, cannot even get past, what history
offers: a dilemma!
The debate about “taking part "; or "
winning ". is an interesting concept in it self, when mentioned that
taking part is the most important area, you have someone say: " You can
take part, I like to win, I want to win, and play to do that. " This
person is losing big time, because he has not developed his skills, just frozen
in the idea, that the outcome is all. What happen when you lose?
The athletes, many took it very well, in a professional manner, “Gracious
in victory, and humble in defeat. " is a saying, that fits.. This is
a rare quality, whether it is a chess game, or cycle race, how you handle
defeat, is important. Some go off in a huff, tearing the place down,
others go quiet; blaming the authorities; the option of cheating, as they
should not lose comes up, in a worse case: It must be drugs. No one has a
divine right to win; too many think it is an entitlement, in life and sport.
So the best answer was at the games, with so many noble placards on the
faces of the athletes, it touches the soul to see, the mindset rising above the
pack, in a glorious tapestry of level headed, talent, which impressed all
round.
You might want to win, fine, it is
acceptable, as Woody Allen said: “80% of success is showing up. "
The taking part, our club, did not, fail because of winning, it went
under because people did not show up. They wanted the rules changed to suit
themselves, typical of many. So it leaves the pressure, on a few hardy
individuals, to set the example, for the others. The Olympics showed it
in abundance, there was the situation, of the empty seats, I thought that in
Beijing, why they were not filled, it turned out to be the press, not uncommon
in Tennis, Rugby, or Football, Athletics, or even academia, events, have not
been filled. You always are going to have an inertia rate in life. Did people really expect the world to stop,
and join in, it was not going to happen.
It was remedied, with crowds flowing in when they had the chance.
The knockers,
never tap a door, what
they use, are a trip to knock you down when you are not looking; Naughty!
People were suggesting that it is easy, to win some medals in events, such
as swimming, than athletics, this was brought up, in the BBC highlights show,
concerning Michael Phelps, have they tried to swim in an Olympic size
pool it is tough, did the breaststroke, the nearest I came to being a frog. Those
swimmers do different strokes, against resistance in different formats, with
speed. A runner, would never move, in different formats in the body, like
a rower, or gymnast, every event takes its unique capabilities to the games.
Due to the
event a poem/song is concocted, titled:
A Gold medal means so much!
When I get
my Gold medal it will mean so much to me, top of the
world I will be.
One of the
best which everyone will look at.
It will
make me so happy, I will be jumping, around like a yoyo,
When I get
my Gold medal, I will be the happiest person you will see.
So many
people are happy with Silver, or Bronze not me!
Gold is at
a high price right now, so to get one will be worth a bit.
2nd or 3rd is
like, buying something from a toy shop: no way!
My Gold
medal means so much to me, it will live, like a tree,
Getting
above the pack, will prove my medal is the right one for me.
Heaven is a
place where you walk on Gold, in my life it will live in my soul.
Too many it
seems so childish, and immature, to grow up, and talk in a sophisticated way,
as the only answer, they did understand: play!
Doing your best, giving a 100%,
living a dream, making it happen, is what life can be.
The medal is just a symbol, of that,
whatever position is attained, because it lives in the heart.
Most are contented in the day by day
approach, with no high or low. Not me!
When I get my Gold medal, it will
mean so much to me.
If anyone
touches my medal, it could be the last thing they ever see.
So
sensitive, over the effort put in, if they give me a couple of pounds then I
would consider,
When I get
my Gold medal, it will mean so much to me!
Anyone
grab’s my medal, without my permission, it will be sad.
So get off
the chair, and start moving, because the medal means so much to me!
The poem/song, is in it's early
stages, and we have been told it needs a lot of work; however it is appropriate
for the games, some of the comments received are: " Crap "; "
Never be a hit. "; " More time is required "; " Has
potential "; " More work needed "; “ You will have to practice
very hard, to get it right. “ We are taking the part!
“ I do
not know what it is, the human tendency is to do the least possible, with
little effort, and expect, a high result, it might be, just being lazy. I know I
can do more I just do not do it. An Olympic athlete, has a different attitude
they want to achieve, something extraordinary, so they could never have that
approach, they are much more professional in their approach to life, and how
they deal, with situations, how many people are there in the world, seven
billion, how many turned up for the games in the events, there is the answer,
most of us are not going to do it. “ As Stan explained.
No doubt most people are living below their
potential and need a serious wake up call, to fulfill their god given
abilities, You might not think that you, can live with the best, the good news
is you don't have to. No one on the planet has your skills, talents, mindset,
that you bring to a situation, positive or negative. So making a difference
where you are is crucial. No one is going to give your a medal, for helping an
old lady across a street, or striking up a conversation with some one, in need,
or even starting a fitness programme. Big brother is not bothered, about such
stuff, maybe the conversation bit, so if you want to win, just make yourself
worth more, with what you have, in an intrinsic way. Seems so simple!
It was an
excellent time, at the Olympics, we learned, we won, and lost, people raised
their self esteem, in the community, people were even walking in a more
confident mood, that was the power, of the games, let us build on the legacy,
by taking it forward, to all we come in to contact with. A tonic for the troops
it is, we need to do this again!
The Greatest Show on Earth beats any probe on Mars and we found life: best ever!
While NASA was exploring, the vast universe it needed the human spirit to show a probe, what life was really about,
at the Olympic games 2012. We found more than enough, to last a few lifetimes. Wow, what an experience for all,
right from the opening ceremony, with the cultural tributes, to the winning athletes, who won or lost, or made up the numbers.
Whoever developed, such a concept, either is a genius, who saw humans at there finest, or likes endurance to reach
crying levels, which it did, on several occasions: emotion, never be afraid of it.
Our boys and girls exceeded all expectations, there was a ? a big
one, at the start. When the bell chimed, the rocket launched, before too long we were reaching the higher echelons,
of the Gold medal podium, with Silver and Bronze, not too far behind. The highest tally ever, for us, or in recent times,
this was different from 1948 known as the austerity games. This may have been a time of austerity; however, we indulged
ourselves, to the pinnacle, of what was achieved: Chris Hoy; Bradley Wiggins; Mo Farah, on the girls side, Victoria Pedlington,
Monica Adams, a lovely smile she has, and Jessica Ennis, showed tremendous courage, all round. The Brownlee brothers,
in a multi event, not like Daley Thompson; moreover made sure Yorkshire, is represented, not far from world times, those
multi events.
“ It will be the opening and closing ceremony for me, that is it, that is all I want to see.” as Helen
explained, we want it, to fit all.
According to Jacques Rogge, the senior man from the IOC it is the “ Best Ever, “ a plaudit, like
Sydney, which was claimed the same. “ As George mentioned: “ Why should one games be better than another,
do not see the point, it needs to be judged on behaviour of athletes, medals won, and the number of records broken, that is
what makes an excellent Olympics, “ The public have such high hopes, when you have spent, between 10 and
25 Billion – depending on how you look at it – and half a billion on UK athletes in the last 8 years, you would
expect that criteria to be met easily. Apparently it is 10 million a medal for us, according to the BBC. Success
does not come cheap, of course the more we win, the cheaper it may be, As John said: “ The more you win, the more you
get of what you don't want, or need.” as explained, about the concept, of the more you buy, the cheaper it gets. John
added. “ Then you just waste money, with a lot of stuff you don't need at all. “
" Governments use the event for prestige, and an excuse to spend taxpayers,
money, we had perfectly adequate, facilities, that would have handled the events, they were not used, as they are old,
who wants to use and old stadium, so they built new ones, which cost a fortune, in a time of cuts, it will take years to get
all that money back, and there is no guarantee they will. France has stacks of stadiums, even they would have been required
to build new ones, it is all for international prestige. " as Stan said.
If you add up all the costs for the rest of of the world, this has
to be bigger, than whole continents, in expenditure. Some wonderful news, the government has guaranteed the funding
for Team GB right up to, 2016, a gesture, which will inspire, a total of 500 million will be spent, from various sources,
who says the government does not care? It will keep the momentum moving in the right direction, in a recession: another
Gold!
Glamour
boy Michael Phelps, lost some of the shine, compared to his heroics, in Beijing, four years ago, where he broke records like
you break rock, only ended up with the highest tally, of any Olympian ever that has existed, this individual, has more medals,
than whole continents, of billions of people. Disparity, is an overlooked part, of the games, it is not his fault. As
he is a talented person, who is fellow, country man, Ryan Lochte , could not overcome, as some say: either you have it or
you don't. This pattern has emerged so much, it loses its appeal; however it is a powerful factor, for success. Why
does Michael Phelps want to retire, people know who is, he is popular, good with everyone, does not have many edges, like
a lot of athletes, he is too young, for the retirement game.
Some were complaining, that the soaps, scheduling is all over the place because of
the Olympics, and they did not like it. Billy Mithchell from EastEnders did carry the torch, on real life TV, to give
the games support, from Walford. Was it acting or was it real?
The aspect concerning the coverage, being too patriotic, as watching it, if you asked
me if the rest of the world was involved I would be hard pressed to point that out, as examples were cut, just to show, our
lot. Unless you enjoy the concept of hyper-patriotism, an article In the Times, people like Usain Bolt, Ye Shinwen Micheal
Phelps, where, they override nationalistic tendencies, to drum up support, far out reaching, the only us matter approach.
The medal table was available, any one with any common sense, will recognise, that USA, and China, hardly sparred
with any one else, but themselves, with us creeping up to third after a while. I would not be surprised if the top three had
more than the bottom half put together, The disparity games!
Volunteers the heartbeat of the games, rose up, becoming one, is not easy only 1 in
4 were chosen 50,000 who gave up their own time, to keep the Olympics moving, showed the true spirit of the Olympian, and
the taking part, as the gesture, that is truly lived. This has gone in to the background, due to the big events, and
names; however it needs to be highlighted as many work in clubs, and community projects, and like to give to make, it
succeed, in spite of many obstacles, which are put up: they persist! “ The Olympics showed people can unite
together, under false pretences like sport, why can’t they do it, under other circumstances, like in the world,
they do not do that, even in the city centre, they were all together, it brought it. Even when people went down to the
shops they were in a different mood, of course when it is over, they will be back to their normal selves. It can be
done, people can do it, if they want, you do not see this level of unity in everyday life, it is what we need more of,
to bring out the best in people. “ as Chris, a community person, pointed out.
Has it all, really motivated me, this time round: not really, did
copy Maurice Green the Olympic winner, once, on the Rugby field, running up and down like a train down the tracks. No
doubt, it still might continue, with Usain Bolt, on the cards, at the moment it is all Mo Farrah, stuff, nice and steady,
with a fast end. “ Usain Bolt, he just blitzed everyone, the Americans who are usually, the 100m and 200m winners, were
trying hard as possible, the Jamaicans, took the lot. He mocked them so far ahead he was, normally, there is a
bunch of them near the ticker tape, with him, on the scene, there was no one close to him at all. Initially, I thought it
could be drugs, you do not see a man do this, as it has not been done before, he basically obliterated the field, and only
his fellow Jamaicans seem able to keep up. “ As Ron, a keen sportsman concurred.
This Olympics has not only captivated the public, and inspired many
to new heights, it did something, so unique, you would never think it possible: shut the media up! All the serious, negative
news, that bombard the TV, and press, with negativity, poison, was replaced with a smiling, look how great we are attitude,
maybe they had found a cure for all the worlds ills, never seen that happen. We need to have the Olympics more often,
to bring the optimism to our hearts. Our cynical media will be up to their games, when it is over, they play a completely
different type of Olympics, than we are used to.
So to all, we enjoyed, learned, and were moved by it all, ready for Rio 2016!
The
showcase event, lines up the best in the world, to impress the bema
seat!
The
concept of the Bema Seat comes from the ancient Olympics, where a
judge would sit on the Bema Seat at the finish line. The judge's
purpose was to determine what position the runners came in-first,
second, and so on-and then to give out the appropriate rewards. That
is the imagery behind what is known as the Bema Seat.
The Olympic
dream is
upon, us, the five ring show, is arriving , in our own country, world
class athletes, starting from the final, in most competitions,
the idea, defies, all rational, no slack. Only performance will
matter, the battle to host, has been long forgotten, with France
being the favourites, with stadia already built, we nipped it, in the
last second, many of these scenarios, will exist, at the
games. Our neighbours, were truly beaten, to be fair, it could
have been a joint exercise, as we are so close in distance, a million
apart in others. The show has arrived: watch , learn and enjoy!
All people really need
to do, to take an interest in the Olympics, as have watched parts of
Barcelona, Australian, Athens, China, it truly inspires to see such
excellence, of the highest quality, the average person, may watch it
for, a dream that they gave up a long time ago. As we it will
not improve their fitness, the medical profession, gave up that
ghost, a while back. It might change people, you never know?
The logo for 2012, is
not memorable, it looks, craggy, “ You will have to tell him,
that is the only way he is going to know. “ So true, after
five years, still struggle with it, at least, we know it. The
five rings, in conjunction, with our logo, saves the day, no one can
mistake it, so memorable, we are only concerned with the top three
rings: Gold, Silver, and Bronze. A lot of the public who sent,
in, logos to the papers, at the time, were a lot better than the one
chosen, by professional people, it needs to be expensive, difficult,
and time consuming. Once that has been achieved, then let
the public wonder! It is too simple to ask the public, which
one they would like, out of a group of logos, as they might get it
right!
The
Olympic motto is the hendiatris Citius,
Altius, Fortius,
which is Latin for
"Faster, Higher, Stronger"
The
emblem chosen to illustrate and represent the world Congress of
1914...: five intertwined rings in different colours - blue, yellow,
black, green, and red - are placed on the white field of the paper.
These five rings represent the five parts of the world which now are
won over to Olympics and willing to accept healthy competition.
Pierre
de Coubertin Wikipedia.
The flame did not go under water,
like in Australia, with historical significance travels around the
country in fashion, with all kinds, of people, carrying it, yes, even
Jedward, the fun
loving twins, who like the
lifestyle, of celebrity, without the backbone, as Sebastian Coe,
described too many are becoming “ Famous for nothing. “
That problem will be solved, by the end of the games, and replaced
with “ famous for something. “
It
is an opportunity to showcase, the talents, of GB not only on the
track, as being the host, adds that extra touch,
The
one area; is the aspect of having so much activity - G4S could not
cope, with all the events - in the year, mostly sporting, with the
Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, being in the same year, as the Olympics,
the Diamond is much stronger, than Gold, which is the best the games
can offer, in fact, the strongest substance known to man, as Sally,
said: “ We are heading to Buckingham Palace, to see the
diamonds, on display, the Queen has them for the public to look at,
they are supposed to be beautiful, it would be lovely to see
them, it will take a few hours to get around Buckingham Palace, it is
best to go around, now, as the cue and traffic, for the Olympics,
will be huge, would not want to go when it has started, best to go
now. “ It is an excellent deal, win you medal, in the
Diamond Jubilee, the best deal in the world. I am sure many athletes
will brag: “ I actually won it, on the 60th anniversary
of the Queen. “ with a twinkle in the eye, will be said, in future
years.
It
will be tough on us to reach the medal podium, even for our team, as
the competition will be as stiff as a brittle brush: with U.S.A,
China, Russia, Australia, Germany, and the rest, as Eric commented: “
It will be fierce competition, we will be ready; they will be ready
as well, remember you are dealing with the worlds best at their
events. “ Transcendence is another, term used for such
events, with Actualizations. In megatrends it was predicted that art
would replace sport, as the most influential, the whole of 2012, has
proved otherwise.
“
When I do something, it has to be
done, better than it was before, I like to create, to put
something in, none of this simplified thinking, of most people, to
see real quality, I like raising the bar in a creative way, the
Olympics is different, it is; competition, and money. Where is
the art in all this? You look at the great architects, where
something is truly created, it is not bog standard, down at the shops
approach, it is done with hard work, so many people are laid
back, that this is “ hard work. “ If you always have a
relaxed approach, you are going to see it, that way. The greats
never seen it as hard work, they did it. They wanted it better,
and they went out, and got it. It was not work, it had a
superior level to it all. The problem is the TV, when, you go
home, people arrange their room around what I call the ‘ fireplace
‘. That is the new, heating system in the home, everything is
arranged around that, the flower pot. tables, chairs, when it is off,
it looks dead, without the fireplace burning. Laid back, like most
people, just means it is too difficult to do anything worthwhile, if
you are always like that; you will have that attitude. I want you to
understand, that, there is a difference between competition and the
creative plain, what the true geniuses, have. “ Ken gets past the
line!
“
It will be all interesting, as I am
looking forward to it, will not support the Team GB football, will
only support, England, when it comes to Ireland, Wales, or Scotland
we can support them, they do not support us. So will not.
The Gymnastics, Athletics, and the Judo, do not know whether, the
other sports fit in, at the games, as there will be a lot of
foreigners, will only, want Team GB to win, as they are ours, that is
normal for me. We have to watch the rain, as that can
ruin everything, as we do not want people, to go away, thinking, “
It was the Olympics, and all it did was rain, “ No, not all,
we must have the sunshine, the history books must reflect that, as it
is important, that it is excellent weather, so, it can be truly
magical like a masterpiece, which I am sure it will be, with the
level on show, for people to watch, must keep an eye on those clouds.
“ as Graham a 35 year old said.
Team
GB Football, for many years, did not even bother, to participate,
since 1974, they entered, many times before that period, why be
concerned now? People often wondered why we did not have a team,
while other nations, did. A plus, for us, if we did not host these
games, this team would not have entered, at all. We only change if
it works for us, if not, we do not know who the Olympic champions
are? This is all from, a so called football nation!
“
If you want it run like a Rolls
Royce, you have to work at it, all this talk about “ Less is
more “ makes people lazy, and stops them from working, because they
have nothing, to do, if you have all easy, with no effort, if
you have the, usual, a few pictures, and a table, with nothing else,
in your house what does that show? You would not have an
Olympian behave like that, they want to improve, people say it is not
worth it all, that what's the point of shaving a few milliseconds,
off a record, it's not going to be massive amounts, as most of these
athletes, are genetic freaks, who would break the record
regardless, costing millions for a few seconds, not worth it, all.
It only lasts three weeks then it is over, and goodbye. “ As
Chris, a worker explained, about the event.
From
Wikipedia:
The Olympic
salute is a variant of the Roman
salute,
with the right arm and hand are stretched and pointing upward, the
palm is outward and downward, with the fingers touching. However, the
arm is raised higher and at an angle to the right from the
shoulder.[24][25]
The greeting is
visible on the official posters of the games at Paris
1924[24] and Berlin
1936.[26] Also
famous is the French and Canadian teams entering the Olympic stadium
in Berlin, 1936 with their arms raised. In the Leni
Riefenstahl film Olympia this
scene was captured, and afterwards led to repeated misinterpretations
suggesting that the French and Canadian delegations were saluting
Hitler.
Since the
Second World War the greeting has fallen out of use because of the
possibility of it being mistaken for the Nazi
salute,
although no official stance has been taken on the matter by the IOC.
A clear message
to all that no saluting at the games, it is too controversial an
issue, to bring back in, even though, there have been a number of
salutes, in the games, by various medallists, over the years, which
has led to controversy about the role it plays in the modern
Olympics. You can do all the other salutes, you cannot do an Olympic
one!
We would
like to wish all the athletes, a wonderful occasion, if they can
remember the motto that is associated with the spirit of it all, “
It is not whether you win or lose it is the taking part that counts.
“ For some reason associated with the Olympics, never
originated from the games. Participation in the spirit of it
all, will lead to a successful outcome for all involved.
Conclusion
It's
not whether you win or lose? Perhaps
not, and our society has definitely been sending that message for
decades. But, nonetheless, I play to win, and I hope all the other
players do too, whether they feel like winning
is the only
thing or not taken from:
