Exercise and the Olympics! Welcome to 2009, and we are in
to, the New Year, with lots of bang. Once again, Health, and Fitness, has come up again, same old picture, as predominate,
to people. If that was the case why so many, according to Lloyds pharmacy, that 70% do not do enough exercise?
Is it true, that so many people, are so suffering, from inertia, that they have given up, on their main asset: their body!
According to In search of Excellence, by Peters and Waterman. That nearly everyone put themselves, in the top 10 percentile
in terms of physical fitness - the ability to delude themselves, seems rampant in our society. People think they are
red hot; the study had similar, results for people skills. We all think we are great, even though the facts prove
otherwise. We need to inform people, the way that they really are, not the way they think they are,
or the way they appear to be - even though it is safer to accept them the way they think, they are. Let’s
get real, or not play at all. These are the most common ailments. The most expensive Conditions to treat: 1 Heart
Disease 2 Cancer 3 Trauma 4 Mental Disorders 5 Pulmonary conditions 6 Diabetes 7 Hypertension 8 Cerebrovascular disease ( e.g.,stroke) 9 Osteoarthritis 10 Pneumonia 11 Back problems 12 Endocrine disorders 13 Skin disorders 14 kidney disease 15 Infectious disease Most of these conditions are
partially or fully preventable. At the risk of repeating myself, these factors can all be mitigated or
prevented through proper diet, exercise, treatment ( in the case of diabetes) and lifestyle choices.
Live, Long and Prosper, Steve Vernon, P: 91-93. We can
win this one if we can get it right; kick the lot, in to touch, with some simple methods, as a Doctor said:
" Blood sugar and pressure, also Cholesterol, you need to keep an eye on them. " An Eye specialist. Which can be costly, time consuming, and hurtful,if you have any of the above, praise
God, that you don't have any of them. The good news according to the research in this area, that they can be prevented,
by, some simple ideas, that a four year old could do. As ken said “It is like being in a boxing ring, that is all they
know, that is it, they cannot see outside that area. " Open your eyes! " Champions don't become champions
in the ring they are merely recognized there." as John C Maxwell, the leadership expert, adds. Bertrand Russell mentioned:
" People cannot go outside their own experience. " If you are bothered, more about it than, they are, there must be
something wrong. The authorities have, decided
to invest 500 million into various sports with gaining, an extra million, to move their bodies. Some people and
jobs, have already surpassed the requirement, of the five times, a thirty mins, a day routine. A dustbin man is easily,
doing that everyday, he or she, is using both arms, to move the bin, a postman is walking all day, as ken said: " I don't
need a gym, I up and down ladders all day, long, carrying cement, that is how I get my exercise. " as added by John:
" I am walking in the warehouse, all the time, that is my fitness, I don't stand around, at the end of the day, when, I go
home, I think to myself, I deserve that rest, and relax, in a chair. " So mainstream society is already surpassing
requirements, take a look at Wembley the work rate that it took to build the place, from the builders, the players, will,
never reach it, that level of work, in an entire lifetime, in terms of hours: plus effort. So within areas of society, it
is happening. " I like it to be natural, a walk, climbing a tree for apples, some gardening, the easiest
way to fitness. " Up there with the research studies, that prove moderate exercise is, as effective, as rigorous.
As the Dalai Lama explored: I think it is important to
remember that in all human activities, whether it is work or some other activity, the main purpose should be to benefit human
beings. Now what is it that we are seeking in our work, what is the purpose of work? Like any other human activity,
we are seeking a sense of fulfilment and satisfaction and happiness. P:65 Steve Vernon Live, Long and Prosper. An
idea, for everyone. All bodies are different, and react
to different approaches. There is no one size fits all, approach. This may take a real trial and error style to build
up, to something that works for you. The late Dr Atkins, did, mention that you needed exercise, to make it work properly.
No short cuts, it has too be done. If you are doing a diet, taking supplements, eating properly, and no fitness, it
may not work as well. All common sense, a message that will be needed to be repeated, until it sinks in, AsAdrian commented. " I see a lot of parents with fat kids; I just
think what are you doing to your children? " On the
positive side, life expectancy has increased substantially, since 1900 it has, nearly doubled. There are a lot of positives,
compared to the third world, we, are up there in the top half league position. It helps, so success has already
been achieved. As Sally said: " I do a lot of shopping that is exercise isn't it. " Maybe, a secret formula! The 100,000, deaths each year, from smoking; furthermore, 10,000 from Alcohol problems.
Not to mention, many innocent people, being affected, by these activities, the hidden cost to society. A " Social Holocaust”
described by an academic. With the figures so high, how come there is not much of a fuss, like Sept 11th, or 7/7.
Which had much lower figures; however much larger level of publicity, than the higher figures for smoking, and drinking.
" You cannot compare the two, it is not the same at all, one is done to oneself, the other was done to them, no one wanted
that to happen, you cannot look at it that way. " As Tel said. As it was more like a James Bond film, it gets attention.
The hypocrisy reeks in our society once again, as the larger amount is the most important because more people are affected.
A sad state, to be in. As Dave pointed out; " It was the drinkers, and the smokers that built this city. " We may achieve something, still many are not doing enough. Which is their choice,
keeping strong, fit and healthy is one of the gifts you can give yourself, with a lot of positive benefits. The FSA,
never really bothered with the banks, or informing them, that they were taking too many risks, until it was too late.
As no one wanted to hear the different opinion, a case of group think. You cannot think of every angle; moreover people
will need to take responsibility for their lives, as Hertzberg the Management expert said: " You tell them, why they are an
idiot, a person should take responsibility for their own quality, not put it on, an inspection system. " Chris Hoy rides, faster
than Lewis, with more Golds than Rebecca: Only one! What a final?, Chris Hoy, receiving the BBC personality
of the year award. Lewis Hamilton, the star man, came close, well Rebecca Adlington, swimming into third place.
Not a usual situation. Joe Calzaghe came punching his weight, strode
in, like a champion. " He has never lost, he has never drawn, he has only ever: won! that is incredible. " as
George said. " All it takes is one loss, at that level, then it changes, he has worked hard, and dominated for
so long, that he is used to it, I remember, Henry Cooper, he was excellent, had a glass chin, that was his downfall, which
Joe does not have, he should retire he has done it all." as John pointed out. " He is supposed to have a few restaurants
in Manchester, that is what I have heard, it has taken him so long to get there, it used to be a hundred fights
before you are recognised properly, now it is only a few, he has only been recognised in the last few years, before that he
did a lot, he is not a showman, like Naseem, or Eubank, he has a good personality, looks, and money in the bank, so what else
is there, this years goodie, is next years baddie, that is the way it works, good luck to him." as Ken said. “I wish
I could be like Joe, and not my self, it would be a lot better, with the lifestyle. " Marvin
Hagler, once commented that punching people is not a skill you can use in life, some advice for Joe. You cannot score
goals, a try, run around a track, in most jobs, it takes more! Micheal Johnson, was on the podium, setting an example, he is quite tall; furthermore an Olympic, star, passing
on. It is strange since Usain Bolt, dominated the 200m by a mile. His time was very close to Micheal Johnson,
which he passed. If they both ran together, Usain would have pipped him; that close a photo finish.
The only person to get close to the 2008 champ was a someone from history. The rest, have not improved, that much at
all......! His book Slaying the Dragon - not about Kung Fu - gives a lot of motivational, inspirational tips from his
success at the top, going to University, and learning. The mind of a champion, on paper. Chris Hoy, well who would have expected it, there is apparently one million bikes sold
in this country every year; yet you do not see many on the road. Most are probably forgotten in garages. " They
buy them, ride, them, for a while, then quit, the cheaper bikes are heavier, a lighter one, might have helped. " as a cyclist
said. You get more exercise if it is heavy. " ; “ How can you build a society on shopping, to keep
buying, spending money, when, you stop spending, it falls apart, it is crazy, the whole system is based on that, that is why,
we have the problem with Woolworths. " as Steve expressed. Buy the bike; don't ride it. “I remember a time
when, everyone rode a bike, they were everywhere, it was a site, now it is all cars. " as said. Go over to Holland ,
was he talking about that place. With riding, you use half the energy, of a runner, a lot better on your knees.
“ With a bike, you see more of what is around you, the countryside, the trees, and flowers, when you are in the car,
it just whizzes bye, so fast. “; “ You lock your bike, in some strange places. “ as expressed. Chris
Hoy can get everyone, on the Cycle, with his example, Get on your bike! The lifetime achievement award, went, right on the ball, a few years back it went to
Bjorn Borg, who retired very early, and has not taken much interest in the game - until recently. Where was Sir Bobby
Charlton or Robson? They have given many years, to the game: highs, and the lows. At least that has happened,
in a high stakes game, many do not last long. As Bobby Robson said one year: " If I choose players from the third division
I will end up on the third division. " Or was it the 2nd division. As pointed out: Charge by the years not the hour.
A fair, reasonable, achievement, perhaps could have been much earlier. Seeing Ian Rush, up there
with Gary Neville, was a nice touch, old and new. Apparently, the present Liverpool team were not in attendance, It
was supposed to be Steven Gerrard, or Jamie Carragher to hand it over. Rick Parry, was there. These
people at the top have very busy schedules, people want there time, all the time. It can happen to anyone who is
busy, you cannot do it all. It is about representation, as, long at that is there, and that is what matters. Ian Rush,
was perfect, he has been an ambassador for the game for years, very loyal, and committed. People recognise him, as he
scored so many goals. It is all public relations, and a show.
Well done, Team GB, in China, a great success!
The dedication, commitment, all will be at the Olympics, a once in
a lifetime gathering, many have been training for years, for the, event alone. Team GB will do well, I am sure, as Eric
said: " It is not going to be easy, out there, it is fierce competition, the other countries will be ready as well. " Kelly
Holmes, Paula Radcliffe, Sebastian Coe, Daley Thompson, who is helping Tennis and Football, with Nestle, as, he did so many
events in the Decathlon, he had the body to cope, with it all, Dean Macey has retired, after all that, something has to happen
as ten events, at the World Class level, with, high, standards all the time. No slacking at all. Jonathan Edwards,
another hero, did anyone see " Sprint " it was interesting, they were all, ten second, and a bit, 100m runners. Fast!
One of the athletes after seven runs, put himself, - his legs - in to a pack of ice, for fifteen minutes. He could have
gone to the North Pole. It was that cold, perhaps it helps in recovery, as he won the event. Most of the athletes
are world class before, and have records already, so, it will be tight. All too specialised. All those who are
serious, did anyone see that programme, about the Black Power salutes, at the 1968 showcase, one of the runners, held the
record, for twenty years. They would stand up today! Since the Olympics is usually an Athletic event, I have tried the 100m 400m 800m
1500m, the shot putt, some cross country, and Relay. You do your best, never really enjoyed it. Was lapped by a real
runner in the 1500m, did not do my confidence any good at all, it was a defeat. It is interesting to note that those
who like to run, who have consistently kept it up, their times were, just out bye a number of seconds during their peak years.
As they got older, there was not much in it. I think it was the Cooper, institute, who did the study. Once again, Football from the home nations, they could not make the Euro, they could not stump up a team, for the
Olympics either, follow the trend. Team GB; is not the same, what happened here? They could not agree, eleven
players, with say five subs, that is sixteen, all it was four from each country, Wales , England , Scotland , Ireland: so
simple! The Republic, that is five teams, they do not understand that, when one team, does not make it,
you just move on, to the next. We finally figured out, why we did not make it, the lot of them: Germany, Italy, Spain,
France have one team for their large populations, we have five for Sixty million people, any, five year old will have spotted
that. It reminds me of Deming the Management, Quality expert, who mentions about, the Japanese car had only one bolt
and one thread, while ours had five different threads. Which was not necessary at all? Perhaps they knew it was
an athletic event, and did not want to interfere, they could have done it, and it would have taken cooperation, where competition
divides too much. Just hand over your passports, and a dustbin, a plane is ready to take them all, out of the country.
We don’t need you for 2012. No one likes losing, on this one we have, lack of cooperation,
let it be. Remember it did not, have to be a big, star team; a championship team from the league could easily accommodate
the home nations, which, they have done for many years, players coming from those areas. Many teams have fielded that
group of players, so it has happened numerous times. Send one along, they will represent. They can do it.
Team GB worked together, as they do have lower level participation, and less complex issues; moreover the process
is valid. “They should have let him go, to have all this, court case happen, right before
they are going to the Olympics, is sad, it will only upset the team, all this, it would have been better after the event,
he has already been punished, we need the medals by hook, or by crook, wow brilliant Great Britain, are the others, looking
at this way, no, not at all, he might have got a medal.” On Dwain Chambers, who we did not need. “ With,
the Olympics will not be watching it, all those fireworks, in the opening ceremony, to have it like that, with all the poor
people in the world, who the money could have been given too, who need it more, are these athletes natural, they have all
these doctors, and scientists, who, are helping them, I don't like that, in our day, you put on some shorts and you run. That
was it. " as Ken said They will be focused, I am sure, unlike many who do not concentrate. Michael
Phelps, is going for the Gold, a rare person indeed, I can do the breastroke, if he was a fish, one of the quickest, a mind,
a body, the desire, well who has that much talent. He is the type like many at that level, who, will succeed in other
areas. He has been in the Newspapers, over, the years, so nothing new, with him, " They call him, the human dolphin, at
least he has them for a lifetime like all at the Olympics, you have to give them back the medal or trophy, back after a year.
"; " Out of this world, occasionally you get one like that, "; Great, lets have more of it. "; " He must either be greedy,
or extremely talented, "; What country does he come from?, America, as answered, No he does not he is from Australia,
they are the ones, who produce the swimmers. " As a girl, a bit of a stunner, mentioned, his name in the town centre. A
popular person. "I will be watching a lot of it as much as I can, it only comes around once every four
years, they are the best in the world, the best of the best. " as john said “It is this
competition culture, that is what the Olympics is all about, the pinnacle of it, the planet has not moved forward, they
should have something better by now. It is all divided in to winners and losers, and I am the latter, I do not fit in
with that, I am a cooperative person, not a competitive one; it is the way society has gone, as well. " as Frank commented. That girl that mimed the song, who, was cute, while the less attractive one, just sang, typifies our society, where
looks account, for more than the talent itself, a road explored before, to have that with world class athletes, like they
are, is sad. There dedication, and supreme art, nullified by an image, as will be explored later. " They have
the physicals consciousness, which everyone wants to have, a lot of people want to act and look like them, of course
they cannot, it is not possible. " as Sally said. The Swimmers, bike riders, canoeists,
and horse riders, are all disciplined athletes. You can become an Olympian whatever
you level " How do
they win the gold, within one seventh of a second, that is amazing, they must use accurate timing, to do it, one gold is enough
at that level, there is someone going for seven, I am sure he is American. "As Mo said,
he added: " I will not be watching the Olympics because of what has happened in
Tibet over the past fifty years, anyway the Georgia conflict as overshadowed the whole event. " Sir Clive
Woodward, with, his methodologies methods, seemed to have paid off, to have done well in the top six in the medal haul, is
incredible, who would have thought they would have done so well, Rebecca, breaking the swimming record, the cyclists,
runners, it is all a team effort. Usain Bolt, dominating
the 100m, with is his arms outstretched, almost slowing down, no runners, do that, he had more in the tank, there is
no need for it, he is fast, that is the showcase event, all built up. A star studded track, Tyson Gay, and Asifa
Powell, all under ten secs, the trio, were all hyped up. He took the 200m in style, breaking the world record; furthermore
the relay record: three golds! He is rocket fuel, he was determined, like previous champions, he has the ability to
recover quickly, a topic discussed, it is in their character, in business, life, unlike some who do not seem to recover, as
said in the film Blazing Saddles: " I just walked myself in to a whisky bottle and stayed their ever since. " To win your own Olympic medal, here a few tips that can be useful from Dr Dean Ornish: The most
efficient way to exercise is to make it part of your daily activities and routine. - Instead of driving, walk or bicycle to work or to the store. If that's not practical, park
a little farther away ( where the parking places are usually easier to find, thereby also reducing your stress level ).
- Take the stairs instead of an elevator, especially if you're going only one or two floors.
- If you use the moving sidewalks at airports, don't just stand there - walk!
- Set aside some time after work to go for a walk with a friend, a loved one, or a family
member. Going for a walk with a loved one is a way to increase intimacy as well as exercise.
- If you play golf, walk instead of using an electric cart.
- Exercise with family or friends to provide social support for more motivation and a double benefit.
- Have a little adventure - walk in new environments.
- On a vacation, walk rather than drive to see and experience the sights.
- Write time for exercise in your appointment book - in ink
To achieve a training effect, exercise
must be of a particular type, frequency, intensity, and duration. Dr Dean Ornish, Reversing Heart Disease, P: 320,
author of Love and Survival. Go for the Gold medal, you can do it. Lance Mason has
had some views, on , the opening ceremony, under the title: Something's wrong... An Olympics Disgrace, in an email. If you watched the opening ceremonies for the Olympics in China this year then you no doubt remember Lin Miaoke,
the amazing little girl who sang during the event.
Except that she didn't.
The word is out.. she was lip
syncing to the sounds of ANOTHER girl singing.
Yang Peiy, the girl with the voice is apparently "not cute enough
for T.V." and was therefore not allowed on-stage during the event.
I'd like to stress something...
This
girl is SEVEN YEARS OLD.
Now, if you can look at a seven year old girl.... ANY seven year old girl... singing a song
with a voice like that and think...
"Yeah sure, she's got a good voice, but she's not that cute"... then there is
something VERY seriously wrong with you.
Now, I know this isn't YOUR fault.
Truthfully, it's not really even
the fault of the organizers who made this decision.
The TRUTH is that there *really is* a standard in all of
our minds for 'how cute' even a seven year old must be to be on television.
So let me ask you a few questions
about this reality.
How do you think this will affect Yang Peiy, to know that at seven years old she is ALREADY
denied what she deserves because of her looks.
I'm not a psychologist, but I think no matter how beautiful a
woman she ends up being THIS event will leave it's mark on her self image.
Just as importantly, how do you think
this affects ALL girls, young or otherwise, who read this story as it sweeps the internet. They are all learning,
and readjusting to this even more impossible standard of what they need to look like.
Breaks my heart...
So
let me ask you a question: Do you think you understand women?
I mean, REALLY understand them?
The truth
is, as men we can really only scratch the surface of what it's like to be a women, or what it's like to grow up as a little
girl.
In fact, most men will never even get close to scratching the surface, most men are content to look
at the image of what women are supposed to be like as reflected on their TV screens.
But not you.
You're
reading this message, and trying to understand this strange world women are brought up in.
So the next time a
woman acts a little irrational, does something strange or even a bit weird - cut her a little slack.
Calm down
and try to understand what might be behind this strange behavior.
And try to get a little closer to understanding
what it is really like to be a woman.
The best help I can offer is the FIRST seminar I ever filmed called 'Everything
You Know About Women Is Wrong'. It's a comprehensive program on what it's like to be a women, why they act
the way they do, and how you can use this knowledge get MORE of that amazing female energy into your life.
You
can learn more at:
http://www.PickUp101.com/EverythingYouKnowIsWrong By the way, If
you think the title 'Everything You Know About Women is Wrong' is exaggerating the case a little bit, try and remember
what it was like when YOU were nine years old.
NOW imaging that you have an amazing gift, and that YOU have been
chosen to share your gift with the world.
Except it's not you.
Once again someone else is taking away what should
be yours, just because you're not 'cute' enough.
Can YOU do honestly imagine what it might feel like to live
in a world like that?
Neither can I...
Your Friend, Lance Mason Since life is
full of so much appearances, China, have tried to play, that card, all those athletes, at the Olympics are not like that,
they have decided to dedicate years of training to their craft, and to think any part of that could be faked, would be hard.
It was a PR stunt, you really think they would have put someone up, with crooked teeth, and not attractive. Winners
come from all areas, shapes, and sizes. The real deal is at the Olympics, We understand! The nearest I have achieved to equal, both Micheal
Phelps and Usain Bolt, is the
European Computer Driving Licence( ECDL) with seven disciplines, worthy of the games itself, managed to finish all of
the modules on the first attempt, had some close calls; however tipped the balance. My weaker areas, came out with higher
scores, than, my stronger ones- strange! As the tutor said: “ Your definitely the fastest we have ever had,
well done, it is a pleasure to work with someone who is so motivated, the 2nd highest was a lady with three
children. “ The on-line practice helped, and the easy to use, materials, did not have a Gold medal; moreover a
passport, which was stamped. Let us see Team GB beat that. As Ken said: “ They may have won it all, you
have to remember that, a disabled person who is going a long a beach in a wheelchair, that individual, has probably worked
just as hard to overcome obstacles, as these people have, it is like that story of the talents, we should not just hide our
gifts, like some do, we must use them, that is the way forward, for each person. “ Mike thought. We have done well, finishing fourth, we did not expect it at all, maybe ten, Ben
Ainslie making, the three golds, fantastic, it was a team effort, from all, how outstanding, we can do it, and we did do it.
Building on that success will take some effort; however it can be done with time. This will help the country, all, this
talk of credit crunch, look at those medals, well done team GB, it will lift the nation, and make people happy, which is great
to know. I admire the years of training, to reach the level, it is amazing to see, well done all. Some of our
success include: Rebecca Romero how she changed from Rowing to Cycling, only God knows, making Gold,
so fascinating, all these athletes, have the skill; furthermore mindset, coaching ability to change events, and still have
success, higher than an amateur, like taking 100m running, the 800m, the times would still be high. Wow! Rebecca
Adlington, breaking the world record, in Swimming, did not expect that. Chris Hoy, Bradley Wiggins, in the
Cycling. They have long way to go, to, keep up with Sir Steve Redgrave; moreover Mark Hunter, made it as well.
The good looking ladies: Sarah Ayton, Sarah Webb, and Pippa Wilson, worked well as a team, as Dave said: " Most people
will only be interested in the volleyball, to look at the women in bikinis. " The medals count! Louis Smith, riding
the horse, you have to have excellent, hand, and body coordination, to do that. It is difficult in that discipline,
they all excel, like watching the final of X factor, Britain ’s got talent, Marie, Joseph, and come dancing.- the choir
at the moment. Looking at this lot, it is a league above, would not want to make that decision. As Simon Cowell said: “
They have set themselves a really high standard, a massive, massive bar, lets see if they can go over the bar tonight. “
He must have been talking, about the high jump. Christine Ohuruogu coming back from three missed tests; showing talent like she did is worthy of respect. " That is great,
if we can get above the U.S, and China, that would be ideal, we are not going to do that, they have large populations, that
is why they win, so much more choice, we have exceeded , as long as we are, above the Aussies who cares. It is
a minority. sport, we don't benefit from it at all, the Olympics like all competitions, only benefit a minority, how
does it affect, a jobless person, or postal worker, or someone in a bank, I would like an event that would give a gold
medal to everyone on the planet, that would mean we would all benefit, then, we are all moving forward. “ as Steve pointed out.
